4 Common Wifi Problems and How To Fix Them!
#4. No Interent Access In Specific Rooms
Especially if you live in an old house, you might notice that Wi-Fi works perfectly fine in some rooms but in other rooms it is either really slow or it doesn’t work at all. It can be quite annoying to have to move to certain rooms just to get Wi-Fi working. Often times when Wi-Fi works in some rooms but not others, it has to do with the location of the router. If you move the router to a location that is towards the center of your house, the coverage is going to be more reliable than it would be if it were near an exterior wall. It is a bit trickier if you live in an apartment. Using an app like Wi-Fi Analyzer will allow you to see nearby wireless networks and learn information about them. If you know what channels your neighbors are using, you’ll be able to pick a channel with less traffic. Another alternative will be to buy a Wi-Fi extender. Once you have a Wi-Fi extender, you’ll be able to put this device at the edge of where your router can reach. By doing so, the Wi-Fi extender will extend the range so that it covers an additional part of your home that your router has a hard time getting to.
#3. Slow Internet
Sometimes the Internet isn’t just slow in certain rooms, it’s slow all the time. The first step is to determine if the problem is your router or your connection. If you have a T.KO TV Streaming Box, you can go to the google play store & download an app called Speedtest.net to test your Internet speed. We recommend testing with your T.KO TV Streaming Box while it's plugged directly into your router/modem via Ethernet cable. If the speed is slow, (we recommend at least 20 Mbps download speed) the problem is probably the package you a paying for isn't fast enough. But if it is only slow only when you connect via wifi, the problem is more likely the router. If your connection is slow, your best option is to do a quick reset and see if this resolves your issues. We also recommend calling your Internet Service Provider, knowing what speed you're supposed to have.
#2. All Devices Connect Except One.
If the Wi-Fi doesn’t work on your T.KO TV Streaming Box but seems to work just fine on all the rest, there might be a quick fix. First try turning off the Wi-Fi on your box and then turn it back on. Usually, this will do the trick. You can also go into settings & disconnect from your Wi-fi and then reconnect by typing in your password. If it still doesn’t work try resetting the router and your box by unplugging it and plugging it in again. If your T.KO TV Streaming Box is connected via Ethernet, start by unplugging the Ethernet cord from the back of your T.KO TV Streaming Box waiting 30 seconds and plugging it back it. If that doesn't work, follow the steps above.
#1. None of Your Devices Connect to Wi-Fi
What if none of your devices are cooperating? If you can’t connect any of your devices to Wi-Fi, the first thing you should do is plug a computer or laptop into the router via an Ethernet cable and see if you can access the internet. If you cannot, you can be sure the problem is with your router. Many people use the equipment provided by their Internet Service Provider. In some cases this equipment is fine. If you choose to use their equipment, we recommend asking for a separate router and separate modem and not a combo unit. Based on our experience, the Modem/Router combo units that most service providers give or lease to customers do not preform well. You also have better security with a separate router. If you have a combo unit, call and ask for a separate router or better yet, purchase your own.
